How To Chat

To be prepared one must either CONNECT through a Java-Enabled Browser (Netscape or Internet Explorer) or one must download Internet Relay Chat software. I have found that IRC is the best way to chat online; it has no download time (other than downloading the software initially) compared to the Java-Enabled Browser (which has to download each time after a person closes his/her browser).

• Download mIRC for Windows, Ircle IRC for MAC.
• Install software on your computer.
• Open the IRC program and connect to the Terry Brooks chat channel using these paramters:
  Server: irc.zirc.org port 6667
  Choose chat name and password, press Enter
  Join the chat by typing /join #terrybrooks

  Once in the chat room, register your chat name using this command at the cursor: /ns register password email

  Proceed to chat with other fans!

Once into the chat room, there are some useful commands that one can use that will increase the enjoyability of chatting. One types these commands in the same spot where one chats. Here is a short list:

• REGISTER: /ns register password email
  This command will allow you to register your nickname.
• RECOVER: /ns recover nickname password
  This command will help you to recover your nick when a user is using it, you can disconnect them using the recover command.
• PASSWORD: /ns set passwd newpassword
  This allows you to change your nickname password.
• ACTION: /me action
  This allows you to do an action.
• NICK: /nick newnickname
  This allows you to change your nickname in the chat.
• IGNORE: /ignore nicknameyouwanttoignore
  This command allows you to ignore another user, effectively preventing their own display of typing only to you.
• MESSAGE: /msg nickname yourmessagehere
  This command allows you to message someone individually.
• EXIT: /exit
  This command allows you to exit the chat completely.
