The New Landover Map
I am a huge fan of maps. Always have been. There is something intrinsic about fantasy and the quest-type journey that demands a map to highlight where characters travel and events transpire. Del Rey, for the release of A Princess of Landover, decided to update the map for the world of Landover. And I love it. It is another Russ Charpentier map. Russ has been doing professional mapping for long years, and he brings a beauty to his work that is almost unmatched in the business. Decide for yourself: Map by Russ CharpentierWhat do you think? Like it? As I said, I think it is brilliant. And on Friday I am going to post the back cover to A Princess of Landover, in preparation for the August 18th release—a back cover I think many will find very intriguing indeed! Princess Tour Additions
Terry sent an email this morning with two or three new additions to his upcoming tour. They include an event in Idaho, as well as an event in Utah! One more might trickle in from him about Idaho, but this is pretty much the tour he will be going on. Click HERE for that list. If you are within a two hour drive of one of these events, definitely go! Meeting Terry is always fun and he always signs all books brought him and answers all questions posed him. And, on top of that, he will be reading from Book #4 of Genesis! All the more reason to travel to see him! And you can travel to see him. Because for this tour Terry is driving to all of these events. If he can drive to Utah from Seattle to see his fans there, you can drive to one of his events too! :) And I expect pictures taken and sent into the website! Yes, my precious, picturessss! Terry Brooks Video Interview
Terry visited the San Diego Comic Con and had a multitude of fans waiting for him to sign. A signing that was slotted to take one hour spread into just over two hours. I was really surprised at how many fans said the only reason they bought a Comic Con ticket was to see Terry. Other than the autographing session, Terry also took part on a panel and and interview conducted by yours truly. Terry talked about his return to Landover and dropped a few hints about what Book #4 of Genesis will be about. To watch the video interview, click HERE! A New Omnibus Cover
Terry Brooks has long been one of the foundational authors of the fantasy genre. With his 1977 bestselling The Sword of Shannara, he helped publishers realize there was a massive base of readers out there who craved fantasy. From that time, Terry has written numerous Shannara books, each exploring something different, each growing that foundation he helped originally to create. But the Shannara series is not his only series, and many fantasy readers overlook Magic Kingdom of Landover! Magic Kingdom For Sale—Sold! began a new bestselling series for Terry in 1986. The novel was a vast departure from the three sprawling epic fantasies he had written before it, the story of Chicago lawyer Ben Holiday and his purchasing of a real magic kingdom. Right from the start Terry told his readers Ben Holiday was an alter ego of sorts, as Terry used the fictional character to discuss his transition from lawyer to full-time writer. Terry wrote five volumes about Ben Holiday, his magic kingdom of Landover, and a whole cast of unique characters—the last novel, Witches' Brew, published in 1995. After 14 years, Terry has returned to the Magic Kingdom of Landover series with the forthcoming novel, A Princess of Landover! To celebrate Terry's August 2009 return to The Magic Kingdom of Landover, Del Rey Books asked artist Steve Stone to create two new pieces of artwork to be used on collected omnibuses of the first five books in the series. The first omnibus, The Magic Kingdom of Landover: Volume I, contains the three novels Magic Kingdom For Sale—Sold!, The Black Unicorn and Wizard At Large. Volume II contains the two novels The Tangle Box and Witches' Brew. Today is March 1st. I decided to showcase the first cover: On April 1st, Del Rey Books and I will send out the first of a new series of monthly Terry Brooks newsletters. The April newsletter will include the covers to Volume II and the new book, A Princess of Landover. Additional newsletters will contain more information, interviews with Terry, several fun contests, excerpts from all the books—and some other surprises! Not signed up for Terry's newsletter? Visit www.TerryBrooks.net and use the sign-up form at the bottom of the front page or the one at the top of the News page here. It's that easy. The return to Landover has begun! October Ask Terry Updated

Now that he is home, he has caught up on his Ask Terry duties! Click October Ask Terry Q&A to read Terry's newest thoughts on his work! And as fans, be sure you do your duty and ask new questions! On a side note, Terry has put to bed the next Landover novel. It is now fully edited and tentatively titled. More on the title later! New Landover Finished
Terry has now finished the new Landover novel. His editor, Betsy Mitchell, has also finished reading the manuscript, edited it, and has sent it back to Terry for his consideration. As we speak, Terry is knee deep in editing for a few days. By next week, the next Landover novel will be completely finished and ready for publication. So why can't the book come out now, you may ask? That's not all that must happen. There is cover art to create, a marketing plan to... well... plan. And more importantly, since this is the first new Landover book to grace the shelves in over 12 years, Del Rey Books wants to do this right. Just like any other book, the new Landover #6 must go to the art department for cover art and book design—but it doesn't stop there. Del Rey will also be creating two hardcover omnibuses for the new release: The first omnibus will include Magic Kingdom For Sale—Sold!, The Black Unicorn and Wizard at Large. The second omnibus will contain The Tangle Box and Witches' Brew. These will also require new cover art. The omnibuses will be released in August 2009, a month ahead of #6 in September 2009. More on this as it becomes a reality! Labels: Landover
New Poll
Terry is writing the last few pages of Book Three in the Genesis of Shannara series. When he is done, he will be left with a completed story and seemingly nothing to do. So what next? For the last three years, Terry has been thinking about writing a new Landover novel—and that's what he is going to do next. The last Landover novel, Witches' Brew, was published in 1995. It has been 12 or 13 years. That is a long time and Terry is extremely excited to write about Ben, Willow, and the rest of the gang. What do we know about it? The only thing we know for sure is Terry will be incorporating characters from another world bordering on the Landoverian mists. This from his recent Ask Terry answers. Are you excited for a new Landover novel? Have you read the series? Don't care one way or the other? Vote and post in this Official Poll now! Labels: Landover, Poll
Auction's End
For several weeks in November, Terry Brooks fans had the opportunity to bid on a very unique auction—the chance be a character in Terry's upcoming Landover novel. It was held at WACAP Terry Brooks Auction. It appears as though the auction was a success! The auction closed a few days ago and the winner was willing to give $1500 to get his/her name in Terry's next book. Congratulations to "shoopdiesel." We'll all have to wait and see what Terry does to and with this new character... Labels: Landover
Be A Character!
There are few instances where the world of fiction collides with that of reality. Here is one of them. Terry, who is right now wrapping up the final two chapters in Book Three of the Genesis of Shannara trilogy, will spend the rest of the year planning the new Landover novel. When he starts writing it in January 2008, he will not only have the story to tell but... ... he will have to create a character whose name will come from the real world! Terry, in conjunction with the World Association for Children and Parents (WACAP), is holding an auction where the winner will have his/her name placed in the new Landover novel, as one of Terry's characters. This is one of those instances where you can be made immortal—to have your name in a Terry Brooks book is priceless! Of course, Terry won't divulge right now if the character will be a hero, a fiend, or creature. You'll have to wait until the book is placed in Advanced Reader Copy form to find out (ie. you'll be reading the book before anyone else, before it is even published)! So, if you want to bid on your name being in a Terry Brooks book, click WACAP Terry Brooks Auction for more information! Happy Bidding! It is going to a great cause! Labels: Contest, Landover
September Ask Terry
Now that Terry has returned from his two tours and his three week vacation in Japan, he is once again chained to his writing desk with several different project due dates looming. To begin getting everything in line, he has answered your September questions on Ask Terry. He will also be answering your October questions shortly. Be sure to submit new questions for him to answer in early December. Terry also is writing an article for Writer's Digest, as well as finishing the last four chapters in Book Three of the Genesis of Shannara trilogy. He hopes to be done with the latter by Thanksgiving and it is the longest book of the three in the trilogy. And then he will start work on the sixth Landover novel in January.
