YouTube: Dark Wraith Interview
I interviewed Robert Napton at the 2008 San Diego Comic-Con concerning his involvement with Dark Wraith of Shannara. Yes, that's my voice in the background, muffled by the Con as I didn't have a mic. No, this wasn't a planned interview: I had to wing it and Robert had to deal with it—hence the pauses!
Terry and I are flying out to New York on Wednesday and we'll be there through Sunday. Terry is going to promote Dark Wraith of Shannara at the NY Comic Con, the second largest comic con in the world. He is really looking forward to it.
On Friday, he is signing at the Midtown Comics booth. On Saturday, he is on a Shannara panel in the afternoon—along with his editor Betsy Mitchell and the graphic novel's writer Robert Napton—which will be followed by a two-hour autograph signing. For those of you in New York or are going to be at the convention, please stop by and say hello!
More information about Terry's appearances can be found on the Events page of the website!
Terry has finally returned from the wilds of France, the Indian Ocean, and Panama, and yesterday sent in his answers to your February questions. Visit the Ask Terry section of the website to read them, as well as all previous questions we've received over the years and Terry's answers to them.
The answers to the March questions will be posted sometime over this coming weekend.
Terry is also signing the pre-ordered copies of Dark Wraith of Shannara over the weekend. Shawn and The Signed Page will do their best to get the copies out to the fans before Shawn flies to NY Comic Con on Wednesday for six days.
Terry has given a podcast interview with Russel Hale. Listen to Terry talk about writing, the Shannara series, Dark Wraith, and other things. The first part is released today; the second will be released soon!
Newsarama, a website devoted to bringing the best news and interviews in the comic book community, has just released the first part of an interview for the release of Dark Wraith of Shannara!
Terry is the first up to be interviewed today: Click Here!
Tomorrow will be Robert Napton and the next day will be Edwin David.
In a few days, on March 25th, Dark Wraith of Shannara will hit comic book shops and bookstores. It is the first graphic novel set in the Four Lands of Terry's popular Shannara series and it will be the first original fantasy graphic novel released by Del Rey Books.

And remember: Dark Wraith of Shannara comes out on Tuesday, March 25th!
Dark Wraith of Shannara, the forthcoming graphic novel, has been in the works for two years. It took the collaborative efforts of several professionals to bring it to the fans, and that process may be of interest to some of you.
First, Terry has written a Dark Wraith Letter. It is now posted on the website on the Dark Wraith of Shannara page.
Second, posted along with that letter, is a few pages from the Making of section in Dark Wraith of Shannara. It is a PDF (you need Acrobat Reader) and can be downloaded HERE.
People are still really confused about where they can find a copy of the Shannara short story, Indomitable. The story isn't a book called Indomitable; the short story Indomitable is found in a book called Legends II, edited by Robert Silverberg.
Call your local bookstore and ask if they carry this ISBN: 9780345475787
With the Del Rey Newsletter going out two days ago, the website has been receiving a lot of email asking similar questions. Here are some of those questions and their answers:
Where can I find the short story Indomitable? Indomitable is the Shannara short story that takes place after the events of The Wishsong of Shannara, where Jair Ohmsford must discover a way to end the residual evil of the Ildatch—at perhaps a dark consequence to himself. It sets up the events of Dark Wraith of Shannara. The short story was released as part of a hardcover anthology titled Legends II, which also had a number of great short stories from some of the genre's best writers. A year after its release, Indomitable then appeared in the paperback Legends II: Dragon, Sword, and King. Ask your local bookstore for it or order it online from the various booksellers that make it available.
Will Dark Wraith of Shannara be released in hardcover? As of this moment, Dark Wraith of Shannara won't be offered as a hardcover. Sometimes if a comic book series or a graphic novel trade paperback do well, a publisher will produce a hardcover. Until we know how Dark Wraith is going to perform, we won't have any indication if Del Rey is going to produce a hardcover or let a small press publisher take a crack at it.
Will Terry be touring for the release of Dark Wraith of Shannara? He won't be. He is in the middle of writing the new Landover novel and can't be separated from his surrogate child—the new book. But he is doing two events for the graphic novel. Read the Events page for more information. And if you want a signed copy, visit The Signed Page for more information.
If you have any other questions, post them here under Comments.
Dark Wraith of Shannara, the graphic novel taking place after the events of The Wishsong of Shannara and Indomitable, will be released on March 25th in all great bookstores and comic bookstores. It is an integral part of Jair Ohmsford's story, one in which the young man will be tested to his limits and whose experiences could drive him to darkness.
This week I will post a letter from Terry about the graphic novel, and a week or two before release I'll be posting 5-10 pages from Dark Wraith. You'll have a chance to see a bit of it before buying it.
Personally, I found the story that Terry wanted to adapt a great one; he went to a place that begged to be gone to and I'd just never thought of it before. As a former reader of the comic book genre, some of the pacing was off in two spots and the artwork ranged from utterly fantastic to "Wow, that panel needed more time." But all in all I am quite pleased with it and what Terry, Robert, and Edwin ended up completing in the end product. I give it a 7/10—a worthy project.
I know Terry really likes it, and he hopes you all do too. He has more plans for graphic novels if this one works out. Time will tell.
The New Poll is: When do you plan on buying Dark Wraith of Shannara?
A few days before Terry left for a trip to visit the French publisher, he sent in these answers to your January 2008 questions: January Ask Terry
There are some great answers in there, and some insight into what Terry is planning for the forthcoming Landover novel.
Since Terry is not in the US and won't be until mid-March, the answers to February's questions won't be posted until late-March.
On a final note, Terry will be in New York City on April 19th for the NY Comic Con. He will be promoting Dark Wraith of Shannara, but he will also have two signings at the convention—one after the event, one at the Del Rey booth. Shawn Speakman, the infamous WebDruid, will also be in attendance, in case you'd like to say hello.
Dark Wraith of Shannara will be released on March 25, 2008. Terry will only be doing two events for its release, and that leaves a lot of Shannara fans unable to ask Terry their questions about this new graphic novel.
But you can ask questions early if you like! Care to ask a question of Terry, Robert Napton (adapting writer), or Edwin David (illustrator)? Write your questions here in the Comments below or send your questions to Aidan Moher at dwquestions@aidanmoher.com. He is compiling the interview and is looking for your great questions to help make this interview the best it can be!
A Dribble of Ink is currently running a giveaway for one (1) copy of Terry's upcoming graphic novel, Dark Wraith of Shannara, and everyone's invited!
This is a chance to get your hands on an ARC (advance reader copy) of one of Terry's stories months before it hits store shelves. Surely an opportunity you don't want to miss!
A Dribble of Ink has got their hands on Terry's upcoming graphic novel, Dark Wraith of Shannara and just recently posted a review!
Here's a little of what they had to say:
"Brooks explores interesting territory with Jair's Wishsong, drawing parallels to drug addiction and it is as Jair struggles with a magic that is slowly eating away at him - but also necessary for his survival - that we find the true strength of the story and the character."
"...couldn't stop this Shannara fan from feeling slightly giddy at finally seeing the Four Lands brought to life visually and with a fun story to back up the pictures. This is one piece of fan service that Shannara fans won't want to miss..."
Terry has three signing events for the release of Dark Wraith of Shannara:
The first is an event at University Bookstore in Seattle, WA on March 25th, 2008. These events are always a great deal of fun and Terry is looking forward to this one.
The second is for those who can't attend this initial signing. Terry will be signing and personalizing copies of Dark Wraith for fans via The Signed Page, the online signing website. If you want a signed or personalized copy of the graphic novel for cover price, visit The Signed Page. Order now, as only 300 copies will be signed!
And the third event is at one of the largest comic book conventions in the world, NY Comic Con in New York City. Terry will be attending this convention in late April with Robert Napton (adapting writing) and Edwin David (illustrator), along with many other comic book and movie professionals. More information about this event will be posted on the Events page of the website when it becomes available.
Here is the first of several really cool things that are being released here on the website.
Terry and Del Rey have released the trailer for Dark Wraith of Shannara. Dark Wraith is the 208 page graphic novel detailing Jair Ohmsford's seductive fight against the mounting power within, all the while trying to protect the Four Lands from a serious new threat. Robert Napton adapted Terry's story, and Edwin David supplied the artwork. The trailer has a lot of images of the graphic novel set to music and voice, and it is the first peek for fans of the Shannara series.
Right now, it is only available in .wmv format. Quicktime will come soon.
February will also see some new content from the graphic novel posted on the website. And in March, Dark Wraith will ship to comic shops and bookstores everywhere on March 25!
Visit the Dark Wraith of Shannara trailer by clicking HERE!
As for what else is coming, January 1st will see the next update: an audio file of Terry reading from Book Three in the Genesis of Shannara trilogy!
We hope everyone has been safe and continues to be safe during this holiday time!
Terry has answered the 35 questions fans sent into the website concerning the Shannara movie. These questions are the most common questions sent into the website on a daily basis when it comes to the Warner Bros. movie deal.
With Dark Wraith of Shannara coming out in March 2008, I thought talking about its lead-in story is appropriate for this new poll.
Indomitable, the Shannara short story found in the anthology Legends II, is the bridge story between The Wishsong of Shannara and Dark Wraith of Shannara. All three tales feature Jair Ohmsford, Cogline, and Khimber Boh.
So, have you read the epilogue to The Wishsong of Shannara -- have you read Indomitable? If not, are you going to?
In the last several years, Terry Brooks fans and collectors have been lucky; Terry, Del Rey Books, and Orbit Books have released multiple projects like reissued paperbacks with new covers, omnibus hardcovers gathering a group of books within a single tome, and maps based on Terry's Shannara world.
In a few days, The Elves of Cintra—Book Two in the Genesis of Shannara trilogy—will be released in the United States (August 28th). A week later, the book will be released in the UK and word has it the book has already leaked to online bookstores in Canada.
But in 2008, Terry will return to publishing two projects in a year. The second is the untitled third book in the Genesis of Shannara trilogy; the first is titled Dark Wraith of Shannara!
Forthcoming on March 25, 2008, Del Rey Books will release Dark Wraith of Shannara. It is an original graphic novel that takes place chronologically after The Wishsong of Shannara and the Shannara short story Indomitable.
Here is the cover for it:
Like those previous stories, Dark Wraith of Shannara is a tale with familiar characters—Kimber Boh, Cogline, Allanon, Jair Ohmsford, Brin Ohmsford, and Rone Leah. It is also the story of the unknown Croton Witch. It follows Jair's spiral into darkness as his magic overwhelms him after the events in Indomitable.
Terry created and outlined the story while helping guide adapting writer Robert Napton and artist Edwin David to the author's vision. More information on this project, like artwork page samples and story summary, will be supplied sometime in December.
