New Poll

With Dark Wraith of Shannara coming out in March 2008, I thought talking about its lead-in story is appropriate for this new poll.

Indomitable, the Shannara short story found in the anthology Legends II, is the bridge story between The Wishsong of Shannara and Dark Wraith of Shannara. All three tales feature Jair Ohmsford, Cogline, and Khimber Boh.

So, have you read the epilogue to The Wishsong of Shannara -- have you read Indomitable? If not, are you going to?

Vote: Have you read Indomitable from Legends II?

R.I.P Robert Jordan

James Oliver Rigney, Jr., writer of the New York Times bestselling fantasy series Wheel of Time under the pen name Robert Jordan, passed away earlier this week. He fought a devastating disease with honor and integrity, never giving an inch. He was 58 years old.

It is with great sadness we report this. Robert Jordan is a fixture in the fantasy genre. He helped reinvigorate fantasy and gave it an epic scope never before seen. The genre now has a gaping hole where a very good writer and better man once stood, and it will never fully heal—never be filled by another.

A Note From Terry

Hi Everyone,

Just a quick letter to tell you about last weekend in Atlanta at
DragonCon and the Decatur Book Festival.

Arrived with Judine on Friday night, Labor Day weekend, to find
lodging at one the DragonCon hotels. Spent most of the weekend
trying to get on an elevator to our room, but other than that things
were pretty much okay. Attended the opening ceremonies that night,
where David Weber, Bill Fawcett and I put our formidable talents to
use in competition with some pros on answering DragonCon questions.
We won, but the fix was in.

Saturday, Judine and I attended the Decatur Book Festival for a
speech and a book signing. It was great fun with a church full of
people who seemed interested enough to stay to the end. Hard to
figure. Everyone was very nice and enthused about the new book and
the series in general. I promised I would come back soon.

Saturday night was the obligatory banquet with awards given for
different things, most of which I have lost track of. But we visited
with other writers and some actors and had a good meal and conversation.

Sunday was a work day at DragonCon with panels, readings,
autographings and a speech beginning at 10 am and not ending until
close to midnight. All were well attended, even the 10 pm panel,
which I would not have gone to if I hadn't been on the panel. Met
lots of people, some of whom asked about your faithful Web Druid and
his book. Okay, many asked. All in all, it was a joy to be there.

Thanks to Bill Fawcett and Chairman Pat and all the rest of the
DragonCon staff and the staff of the Decatur Book Festival who made
the experience so enjoyable.

We are off to England for the continuance of the book tour later this
week. More when we return. Best to you all, Terry.

Bestselling Novel

The Elves of Cintra will debut at #5 on the New York Times bestseller list for hardcover fiction this week.

Terry is very excited about the news. Last year, Armageddon's Children placed at #6.

A Shannara Movie Interview!

Just before the redesign of the news section here on Terry's web site, we posted a link to A Dribble of Ink's interview with Eldon Thompson that took a look at his involvement in the upcoming Shannara movie currently optioned by Warner Bros.

Eldon describes the initial process he went through to produce a screenplay based on Terry's second novel, The Elfstones of Shannara, which eventually went on to be purchased by Warner Bros. He also goes into detail about his experience with the movie industry, why he chose The Elfstones of Shannara instead of The Sword of Shannara and how he balances his time between screenwriting and his own career as a novelist.

He has a lot of great things to say, so be sure to check it out! If you missed the first metion of the interview, this is the perfect time to get up to date on the Shannara movie project!

You can find the interview HERE.

Dragon Con Pictures

This last weekend was Dragon Con, one of the largest fantasy and science fiction conventions in the world. Terry attended the massive gathering in Atlanta, Georgia, where many fans came out to celebrate the release of The Elves of Cintra and to see Terry himself.

Terry autographed and read from Book Three in the Genesis of Shannara trilogy, as well as took part in several panels about the craft of writing and the fantasy genre.

Below are the first of what will assuredly be many pictures from this event. Enjoy!
